C.A.P.S for dogs is a non-profit organisation that cares for homeless and unwanted dogs, with the primary aim of providing temporary refuge and eventually new homes for abandoned, abused, stray and unwanted dogs. Weipa volunteers take these rescued dogs and foster them in their own homes until a kind, loving and permanent home can be found. CAPS take care of registration fees for the first year, de-sexing and vaccination costs.
As an animal refuge, C.A.P.S for dogs is the only one in the area to provide a service to the community that takes in these homeless, unwanted animals, thus getting dogs off the street and re-housing them back into society as healthy, de-sexed animals. We also aim to develop community awareness and education regarding the best practice on dog welfare. Furthermore, we aim to build a Weipa based Vet Clinic, Adoption Centre and Shelter.
